As Caroline Baum -State Library of NSW Reader in Residence – writes one of the highlights of the Boz in Oz: 112th Dickens Fellowship Conference was a visit to the State Library of NSW (SLNSW), and the presentation of a leather-bound songbook belonging to Mrs Charles Dickens, newly discovered by music archivist Meredith Lawn in the SLNSW archives. Little is known about how the songbook travelled from England and came to be found in the State Library. Accompanied by Meredith and State Librarian John Vallance, Natalie Rose Cassaniti performed some of pieces in the songbook’s collection, which John suggested in his introduction ‘have probably never been performed in Australia before and have not been heard anywhere in over 100 years.’ To read more of Caroline’s lovely write up of the event and the State Library of NSW’s wonderful Dickensian discovery click here.
